2024 Pilot Grant Competition

The 2024 pilot grant funding competition has ended. Please email AI.ML@uky.edu with any questions about pilot funding.

Goal and Purpose: The UK Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Hub are accepting pilot proposals to encourage interdisciplinary collaboration to tackle emerging research related to artificial intelligence and machine learning.

The pilot proposals must be a collaboration between at least two faculty members or post-doctoral scholars and relate to some issue in artificial intelligence and/or machine learning. As these are pilot projects, the maximum award amount will be $10,000, with typical awards being around $5000-$7500. We anticipate funding 3-5 awards this year. Funds must be spent by August 2024.

Funding Timeline:  Applications are due on March 18, 2024 and we expect to notify applicants of decisions on April 1, 2024.

Application Process: Applications should consist of the following

  • 2 page research plan
  • 1 page budget and budget justification
  • 2 page NSF/NIH style biosketches for all key personnel

Review Criteria: Applications will be reviewed based on their intellectual merit, the novelty of the collaboration, as well as the project’s likelihood to lead to publications or additional external funding (e.g. NSF or NIH funding).

Submission: Please submit a single pdf file containing all application documents to AI.ML@uky.edu by March 18, 2024.

Questions: Please email AI.ML@uky.edu with any questions.
