Dr. R.L Anderson founded our department in 1967. He came to the University of Kentucky from North Carolina State University and hired the first faculty. Dr. Anderson was a distinguished scholar, consultant, and administrator. An outstanding summary of his amazing life and career appeared in AMSTAT News in 2016.
To commemorate Dr. Anderson and to continue his legacy of excellence, the Dr. Bing Zhang Department of Statistics invites a distinguished scholar to campus every spring for the R.L. Anderson Invited Lecture. An assortment of Anderson Awards are also given to outstanding students.
