Objective
To introduce undergraduates to the theory and practice of statistics; to emphasize the interdisciplinary nature of the field while providing training in modern techniques and exposure to important case studies.

Primary Audiences
The minor is designed to accommodate students from a wide variety of majors, including, but not limited to those from the mathematical sciences.
Requirements
- Inference: STA 296 (3) or STA 321 (3) or STA 525 (3)
- Probability: STA 281 or STA 320 (3) or STA 524 (3)
- Methods: STA 570 (3)
- One Additional STA Course approved by the Director of Undergraduate Studies (3-4)
- Course in Student's Area approved by the Director of Undergraduate Studies (3-4)

Why Statistics?
A basic understanding of statistical methods and statistical reasoning often allows for insights that would otherwise be impossible. In recognition of this, the following areas have begun to rely heavily on statistics:
- economics, management, and marketing
- applied mathematics and operations research
- life sciences
- physical sciences and engineering
- psychology, sociology, and political science
