Why Statistics?

A basic understanding of statistical methods and statistical reasoning often allows for insights that would otherwise be impossible. In recognition of this, the following areas have begun to rely heavily on statistics:

  • economics, management, and marketing
  • applied mathematics and operations research
  • life sciences
  • physical sciences and engineering
  • psychology, sociology, and political science

Your employment opportunities within these and other fields can be greatly enhanced by acquiring the practical statistical skills that our minor will provide.

"The world is becoming quantitative. More and more professions, from the everyday to the exotic, depend on data and numerical reasoning." -- David Moore, Professor, Distinguished Teacher, Purdue University
